My desire to be an artist first began when I was a kid, about ten or eleven years old. I would look at something whether that be in nature, on TV, clothing items etc., and I would think to myself: “well if I created that I would make it more like this or I would change that or I would add on this”. I believe it was at this point that I began wanting to make things that were unique to me. My experience in creating art began in school where I had taken art classes from grade school, until now in college.
My creativity and desire to be unique originated in my fashion sense. I would design or piece together items of clothing that were somewhat out of the box, but that I, and those around me came to appreciate. My inspiration to create art digitally sparked in high school when my piece was displayed at a local art gallery in Laguna Beach, California. It was at this point that I gained a newfound confidence and passion for the work I was capable of creating. For me, my work never came to mind easily: creating is all about play. I have further taken this desire to make things unique to me by piecing together and adding things that wouldn’t typically go together, through my digital vision.
I find thrill in creating something that is somewhat confusing, yet appealing to the viewer. In my art, I aim to incorporate both modern and timeless artistic identities along with immense color and imagination. In doing this, I hope to encourage people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and characteristics that it is admirable to put an unexpected twist on the norms of society.
